Google Connect, improved.
Hi there,
Smita, founder of Stanza, here to walk you through one of our latest updates. You're receiving this email since you've subscribed to a calendar through Stanza, and use Google Calendar.
Google Calendar, as much as we love it as a product, is a pain to work with when it comes to subscribing to calendars. The restrictions (no new calendar subscriptions on mobile), the slow update times (slowest across all calendar apps), and the pile-up of duplicate calendars is... just messy.
Many of you may know this already, but to solve this problem we launched Google Connect as part of Stanza+. Instead of making you import a calendar link on desktop, we connect directly to Google Calendar and push events straight to your calendar. This gets around Google's finicky restrictions, so your calendars stay up to date across all your devices.
We thought we'd solved the problem. Then Stanis wrote to us.
Some of you may know this, but we're a tiny team at Stanza, just 4 people, and we don't have a dedicated research team. Instead, we rely heavily on our Stanza+ members to improve the product. Through my conversation with Stanis, it was clear we still had more work to do. Over the past few weeks, we pushed several things live:
- No more duplicates. Previously, switching to Google Connect left your old calendars behind, creating duplicates. Not anymore.
- Some calendars updated while others didn't. This was a race condition in how we used Google Calendar's API, and we've plugged it. You should have exactly one set of calendars now, all updating correctly.
- Turning off Google Connect used to mean emailing support. Now you can do it yourself, right from the side menu. Just toggle it off, and we clean up your Google Calendar as part of turning it off.
We'd love for you to take Google Connect for a spin. As always, there's a free 7 day trial available to try it out, and if you need an extension, just write in and we'd be happy to accommodate.
And of course, if you have feedback, please find some time with me here.
Thanks,
Smita
